MTV Classic – A Channel For All Your Favorite ’90s Shows
MTV Is Feeding Our Nostalgia Obsession With A Channel For All Your Favorite ’90s Shows
If there’s one thing the Internet loves, it’s pretending that we live in the 1990s when we barely had dial-up (and the irony isn’t lost on us that the two things we love most are mutually exclusive). The online world explodes at any mention of the good ‘ol days; the dawn of reality T.V. and the era of furbees and Lisa Frank.
Well, prepare yourself, Internet, because we have the ultimate #Tbt for ya.
Now you can revel in all your ’90s nostalgia with the help of MTV Classic: a channel playing literally all of your favorite shows from the nineties and early 2000s.
MTV will be rebranding VH1 Classic as MTV Classic beginning August 1st— MTV’s 35th anniversary (here’s the part where you feel old AF). Prepare yourselves for “an eclectic mix of fan-favorite MTV series and music programming drawn from across its rich history.”
Oh, and the debut hour of MTV Classic will consist of the same programming as the first hour of MTV programming in 1981.
After that early ’80s throwback, the channel will revisit TRL, highlights from MTV Unplugged, and your favorite animated shows like Beavis & Butt-Head and Daria
Obviously, weekends are reserved for shows you binge watch aka Real World, Laguna Beach, and Road Rules.
And no, this is not just a rumor. This is real life.
Sean Atkins, President of MTV, released the following statement.
From Beavis & Butt-head to Laguna Beach, MTV’s programming vault is a music and pop culture goldmine with universal resonance. MTV Classic gives audiences a modern and artful home for classic MTV programming and — alongside MTV, MTV2, MTV Live and mtvU — rounds out a diverse portfolio with music and youth culture at its core.
We can’t think of a better way to avoid this 2016 nonsense.
This year has objectively sucked, so it’s time to live in the past. We’re so ready to throw on our Lisa Frank leggings, kick back with a Crystal Pepsi, and binge watch Real Worldand Cribs. Life is a beautiful thing. (h/t rolling stone/distractify)
