Marcella – Review
So this week had a double bill of Marcella for the epic finale.. it didn’t disappoint either! Without spoiling it.. the end scene literally gave me a heart attack.. I have never jumped so hard before.. ever.. lol!
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Marcella Backland left the Metropolitan Police for the sake of her family, only to have her husband leave her. She returns to her job on the murder squad, investigating a case that seems disturbingly familiar to her.
Pass: Anna Friel was the perfect actress to play Marcella. The intricate storyline, mystery and whirlwind ride made it so addictive.
Fail: We still feel a few questions are unanswered.. is there a second series? I’m not sure..
• Standout Performance
Anna Friel of course, she was amazing!
• Who Will Like This?
Detective/murder mystery fans.. The Bridge, Midsomer murders, Death in Paradise, The Americans..
• See It Now or Wait?
See it now on catch up!
Trying to guess who did it.. and Marcella getting the evidence she needed.. literally at the last second.
• Overall Impression
A fantastic mysterious and chilling detective drama.. Anna Friel does a solid job as the eponymous Marcella.. did she, didn’t she.. you were taken on a crazy journey with this series. Sometimes the story was a little to convoluted at times and many plot threads didn’t go anywhere… perhaps the creators are hoping for a second series to answer some of the major unresolved questions or perhaps, just like in real life, not all questions are answered. While this was very much Anna Friel’s show the supporting cast was pretty impressive too; this included the likes of Sinéad Cusack, who played Grace’s mother and head of DTG construction and Jamie Bamber who plays a police officer who is suspicious of Marcella’s husband. You get hooked on this series very easily, the music was perfect and tense.. the characters and scenes often dark and tense. A great British mystery drama!
