The World Cup 2014
The opening ceremony began last night.. it was nice, not what I expected of the vivid exotic Brazil festivals you typically think of, but it was more creative with art, dancers and music entwined.
I would have loved to see feather jewelled Brazilian dancers though!
The music was a let down on broadcast as they didn’t have a direct feed, so the mood and feel for the opening ceremony was dampened due to this.
JLO and Pitbull made an appearance though!
Brazil started pretty shaky and scored an own goal! I felt so bad for the guy.. but they sure made up for it.
Here’s the highlights and some of my fav pics of the night.
A few brave souls predicted the Croatians could topple Brazil but it wasn’t to be as Neymar’s brace and Oscar’s late third wrapped up a 3-1 win for the hosts. Brazil were lucky with the penalty award for their second goal after Fred took an outrageous dive while Croatia were justifiably outraged to have a legitimate goal chalked off.
GOAL OF THE DAY
Neymar may have stolen the headlines but Oscar’s third for Brazil in injury time was the pick of the bunch, surging from halfway before delivering the coup de grace with a clinical finish with the outside of the boot.
STAR OF THE DAY
Guess who? Both his goals were scruffy but with the weight of the world on his shoulders, you just can’t argue with two goals in the opening match from Neymar.
England play tomorrow, so I will be watching that and any future games if they get through. Come on England!
